Arabesque, Pastel, Charcoal, Graphite, and Correction Fluid, 30x22

I am a self-taught, life-long visual artist, working in painting, drawing, screen printing, collage and sculpture. My work is both representational and non-representational, seeking to eliminate the
boundary between the subject and pure image. I am energized by the exuberance inherent in creating; and the anxiety of struggling to save a thing from myself.

I am compelled by the pure experience of drawing, and I regularly indulge in figure drawing, a most pleasurable pastime. There is no subject more challenging to capture than the human body. Each pose is a master class in form, volume, weight, line, light and shadow, and emotion. But what strikes me most profoundly is how I see following a figure session. Everything becomes extraordinary - the light, the surfaces, the details - and I feel more engaged with the
world around me.

I believe that artistic creation is a human instinct, accessible to everyone, and expressive of our conscious and unconscious lives. Everyone should be drawing all the time!
