The Nude in the 21st Century |

Matthew Cook These works were created as a part of my Master's Thesis show, titled Imago Dei. Imago Dei, or "image of God," is the theological belief originating in Genesis 1:27 that says humanity is created in the image and likeness of God. While this can be taken literally, some theologians argue that, rather than physicality, the image and likeness of God can be found in the soul, the mind or in good, healthy relationships. It was my goal to create images applying to a type of formula, based on the Imago Dei, utilizing the locations believed to be where the image and likeness of God reside in humanity. These locations can be interpreted into criterion for the paintings as follows: attempting to capture a life-life representation of the human figure that expresses an inner spark, or soul of the model, as well as their personality while creating an interaction with the viewer that draws them into the image | |
