The Nude in the 21st Century |

TWO PERSON SHOW AWARD Every picture is an abstraction. As a painter I search for fun, unexpected ways to abstract the real. I enjoy following twisted muscles--in forearms, torsos, or legs--and painting the sight of the wavy world refracted through a wine bottle. Painting is a fantastic technology. When I look at the streaks of smeared or dabbed pigment someone gestured into a whole--some paintings have an uncanny power to transport me. My job, as I see it, is to try to transport others through this craft. So I'm developing myself into the best painter I can. I'm reading and writing and talking about it, courting frustration in the studio, and learning different techniques--like etching--while I look for new abstractions. | |
