Boredom, Charcoal and wash on paper, 18" x 24" x 0"
Drawing from life drawing sessions I facilitated in Manzanita at Hoffman Center for the Arts.

I work primarily in drawing, painting, ceramics, and assemblages. I grew up with a Sharpie in my hand. My parents were both artists and encouraged me to draw the world I saw around me--New York in the 60's and 70's. I've always been pulled to the unintended irony in life and try to capture that in my work. It's what lies underneath that lends humor and sometimes depth to a subject. The subjects that I'm interested in portraying are not conventional in terms of ideas about beauty. Whether translating the bodies of birds during the mass die off of Common murres on the Oregon Coast, or the images of Hollywood movies during World War 2, my work is a personal response to what I see and what I don't see. My past work as an illustrator are all monotypes hand colored with watercolors and gouache, and have been used by clients such as The Portland Tribune, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Oregonian, Johns Hopkins University, Willamette Week, Hewlett-Packard, and many others.
