Passages, Oil on Canvas, 40" x 36" x 1" This painting is part of a series about a singular woman traveling through nature, and in this one the world has stilled around her as she passes through a beautiful, private world.
I have spent a lifetime as an artist; painting and sculpting. Ideas move through my head, constant clouds scudding past my mindscape. As I channel ideas, a painting forms. I think of painting as a mystery to be solved. When I start a new painting everything seems unrelated; figure drawing, composition, color and emotions. As the painting continues, images and materials merge into a mythical, complete painting. The figures are there as a bridge to other places inside us. Art has the power to bring surprising parts back to us, with all the complexities of the original moment.
