Untitled #19, Acrylic, oil and wax, 36" x 24" x 1.5"
I usually work in series or themes and usually apply only descriptive titles. My work is pretty straight forward, they're not narrative paintings, so there's not much interpretation needed. The majority of paintings include anonymous figures from the internet, these are natural and not posed, a glimpse into a moment in time and if not for that photo and my painting, would be gone forever. I've also include the randomness nature of abstraction which to me, reflects life. I hope it becomes clear to the viewer that there are not only multitudes of ways to create imagery but to comprehend it. The paintings are pretty much about the application and technique of painting. In the early stages of a painting, I create a colorful underpainting, I use pallet knives to block in colors and shapes, then brushes allowing bits and pieces of the underpainting to show. I'm not concerned so much with a realistic depiction of a subject but want an impact and response when viewed.
